Spurred on by all this discussion about parsing, I dug up a document 
I wrote a long time ago about a way to describe regular expressions 
in XML.  The basic motivation was to use a SAX API for general 
purpose parsing, or to turn structured text into a tree.

I'd be interested if anyone would find this useful.  I polished it a 
little, but it may have some rough edges.  This is probably not as 
complete as Simon's fragments work, JITTs or LMNL, but I'm only 
beginning to grok those.
