The panel does not seem to be on XML databases solely. It talks about XML AND databases. Specifically, in the case of XML and Relational databases, the problem spectrum might stretch over issues like :- 1. XML Views of SQL data - for creating messages directly from the relational data. 2. XML storage/querying in SQL databases - complex 'documents of record' that can be stored and queried in the relational store in their original form. 3. Extracting SQL from incoming XML - extracting data and/or commands from incoming XML. So, yes, XML might be used ONLY for interoperatibility but processing XML within a system might require many different forms of interaction with the database (relational or otherwise). regards, Anupam Singh. >From: tblanchard@m... >To: "Ken North" <ken_north@c...> >CC: <xml-dev@l...> >Subject: Re: [ANN] "Future of Software and Databases" NetSeminar >(December 3) >Date: Fri, 25 Oct 2002 23:48:36 +0200 >MIME-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v546) >Received: from mail.oasis-open.org ([209.202.168.102]) by >mc1-f20.law16.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.5600); Fri, 25 >Oct 2002 14:47:48 -0700 >Received: (qmail 23010 invoked by uid 60909); 25 Oct 2002 21:57:02 -0000 >Received: (qmail 23002 invoked by uid 0); 25 Oct 2002 21:57:02 -0000 >Mailing-List: contact xml-dev-help@l...; run by ezmlm >Precedence: bulk >X-No-Archive: yes >List-Post: <mailto:xml-dev@l...> >List-Help: <mailto:xml-dev-help@l...> >List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:xml-dev-unsubscribe@l...> >List-Subscribe: <mailto:xml-dev-subscribe@l...> >Delivered-To: mailing list xml-dev@l... >In-Reply-To: <003c01c27c6e$e31cd6c0$1600a8c0@k...> >Message-Id: <83C08F87-E863-11D6-80F0-0030657E2F34@m...> >X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.546) >Return-Path: xml-dev-return-16378-avsingh=hotmail.com@l... >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 25 Oct 2002 21:47:48.0422 (UTC) >FILETIME=[28E73E60:01C27C70] > >Which opens a whole other can of worms. > >If, as some are asserting, XML is for interchange formats - whats all this >about XML databases?
