Can we please halt the "cleanliness considered harmful" threads?

It seems like everyone someone dares challenge the features Microsoft
has added to its toolkit, the "productivity and get the job done" police
come out.

I've detested innerXYZ and outerXYZ since they first appeared in the IE
4 object model for HTML, and I've watched too many developers create
maintenance and overall complexity problems with them for me to be
comfortable with what on looks the surface to be a simple shortcut.
There may certainly be a place for this approach, but it's hardly a
no-brainer.

I don't think that set of problems is particularly productive, nor do I
consider questioning the use of the feature to be some kind of "purist",
"ivory tower", or "academic" crusade. The relationship between XML as
text and XML as data structure is pretty well screwed up as it is, and
shouting about hordes of developers who don't care does very little for
conversations about that relationship.
