I'm not sure I should have stuck that analogy in there, especially given that, as I mentioned, I have never driven either a Buick or a Mercedes. But the distinction I was trying to make was between a class of tools that rewards the fully awake and engaged user (Mercedes), versus one that can be managed by someone who is half asleep (Buick). It may be *pragmatic* design, and is certainly good marketing strategy to cater to the latter group, but is it *good design*? (that's a genuine question, not rhetorical) As for the Buick being cheaper ... no, I won't go there.
