Google understands links to a resource, and ignores metadata about a resource that it (Google) doesn't generate, AFAIK. IF you want Google to take something seriously, link to it from something it already takes seriously. Publishing RSS descriptions could assist that to the extent that the RSS (weblogs, news sites, etc.) feeds inspire others to link to the directory.
