Did you really think you could find an answer to your question here? I read it somewhat as I would read someone who popped in here and asked "Could anyone tell me how to program XML" or something like that. I honestly thought you were trolling, and I might still be right. After an airy dismissal of this lists's usual fare, you posted a question to which there can be nothing but a content-free answer, designed, it would seem, to lead the list into discussion of matters far more "esoteric" than the import of base URIs or the role of type information in XML. I hate to make Mike Champion the victim, but look at his honest response: "Start from your own requirements and business processes and adopt, wholesale or piecemeal, those existing schemas and technologies that fit them." And the like. This is the sort of thing I expect to read from Infoworld analysts, and not on a list for XML *developers*. Here's an honest answer from me, just in case you were not trolling: use your best judgment. There is no capsule answer as to whether or not you roll your own or go with industry schema, or the process of migration, if needed, in either case. We have advised clients to do one or the other, depending on the schemata in question, their needs, and a host of other factors. If you come back with a specific question about a particular schema and particular needs, I suspect you'd get more help. > PS Here's something else that might also score well :-) > > Fourthought provides the platform and the strategy your organization needs > for cost-effective XML solutions. > The 4Suite Server TM platform provides leading technology for pure XML > solutions and the flexibility for clean integration into your current system > and into other application servers. [SNIP] Hey, I scored high enough in buzzword bingo on the Fourthought front page to take a vacation to the Dardanelles. What's your point? From what I understand (so marketing folks tell me) our front page is directed at business types. This mailing list, by contrast, is emphatically *not* a likely forum for business types. And if you can point out where I've used pap such as "strategies for leveraging XML in an enterprise" on this mailing list, I'll print out the Fourthought front page and eat it. -- Uche Ogbuji Fourthought, Inc. http://uche.ogbuji.net http://4Suite.org http://fourthought.com Track chair, XML/Web Services One Boston: http://www.xmlconference.com/ The many heads of XML modeling - http://adtmag.com/article.asp?id=6393 Will XML live up to its promise? - http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/li brary/x-think11.html
