I agree with Mark's assessment of XML Spy for visualizing and manipulating XML Schema (and DTDs). The only reservation I have is with the occasional blips in the parser. We recently encountered a problem with an XML DTD where it parsed in a variety of common XML parsers (notably RXP and MSXML), but failed to parse in XML Spy. I was able to find a workaround that satisfied all parsers -- and in fact what XML Spy wanted was probably a good practice -- but I hate to gear DTDs/Schemas to specific tools; that seems to defeat the purpose of interoperability. There have also been posts to the xmlschema-dev list about inconsistencies between XML Spy's Schema parser and other parsers (such as XSV), not to mention the XPath bug brought up on this list last week. These issues seem to be few and far between, but enough to cause a little concern for us with regard to sharing DTDs/data with vendors and clients who often do not use XML Spy. [disclaimer] The fact that XML Spy is widely and successfully used indicates that it is a good tool (I like it myself :-)). If our DTDs/Schemas were only for internal use, I would have no reservations. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Feblowitz [mailto:mfeblowitz@f...] Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2002 12:37 PM To: 'Dare Obasanjo'; Don Box; Long, Craig Z; xml-dev@l... So far, nothing I've seen compares with XML Spy for visualizing and manipulating XML Schema. A picture can be worth a thousand tags.
