The goals here are similar to the WS-I's -- define "profiles" of existing specs from multiple organizations that REALLY work, and to identify gaps that need to be filled by new activities. I'll predict that the almost universal reaction to "Open Standards Organization" would be "NO! NOT ANOTHER ONE!!! WE HAVE TOO MANY @#$%^&&* STANDARDS ORGANIZATIONS ALREADY!!!!!" The WS-I's PR people have worked hard to distinguish between "standards" and "interoperability profiles". Leveraging this could be useful to a) educate the pundits of the world that XML has the same problem of too many "standards" and too little real interoperability that the web services people have; and b) that real users (and perhaps vendors) can take this seriously without re-thinking their investments in / commitments to the W3C, OASIS, ISO, etc. On the other hand, the WS-I sordid politics have not exactly enhanced its reputation ...
