It is if you have to sell it or buy it. Again, if someone sends me a request that says: "Provide XML", I can laugh that off and say yes because anything from a PRINT statement to a complex object serialization method can wrap strings with < = " > and stuff names in there with whitespace. If on the other hand, I get a request that says "provide ANI/ALI packets in XML format per NENA specification", I can say yes with good conscience and a fixed price. They will get value for money. Some of us give them away. Others of us use them as glue between diverse parts. Some of us (more and more quite likely) don't call our work XML but we use XML anyway. The "business perspective on XML" may be valuable, but it's hardly the only valuable perspective.
