The standards grows bigger and bigger, with more and more features, and is often overlapping each other. Just look at xpath2 - the next thing it will have is an embedded database! (just an overstatement). Take a look at DOM3, it is not getting smaller. Who is bold enough to cut features? Cut out the things that no one uses, and improve the things people uses the most. It is like MS Word, whitch can do it all - except making coffee, I think!. But you only use 2% of its features, when writing a letter to mamma. Standards want to be everything for everybody! That might make them big, hard to learn, unusable! I think we need a group of people who are bold enough to look at the standards, and start cutting, tills they have a small, easy to learn, fast implementation, that represent the features from the standards that people actually uses.
