How about 'data:foo'? Or do you consider that a self-referential name?

There is an entire class of URIs which are also resources and
do not denote anything else.

No. An email address does not refer to a person.

Does sales@a... refer to some person named 'sales'?

An email address is just that. A place to put mail.
