I think you can add the following particular wherever you want to open up your content model as far as it can open. <any namespace="#other" maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0" processContents="lax" /> There is a similar particle called <anyAttribute> for attributes. See http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-1/#Wildcards An W3C XML Schema schema is closed by default. You have to explicitly set the points in content models where openness is allowed.
