Do people never get tired of complaining about XML on this list.. While I'm at it: I don't think XSL is a disaster, it *can* be written by users, we've seen financial consultants take it up rather easily, without any problems, with programmers providing extension functions. The DOM does take up a lot of memory and it's got pretty screwy bolted-on namespace, but it's not too inconvenient to write code with. It is definitely here to stay. Instead of complaining, we should publish design patterns for writing DOM code that establish good practice. (And persistent DOMs can alleviate a lot of the memory problems) I am not too dissatisfied with XML schema (although we could talk about the learning curve..), as long as I don't have to write it by hand, and I don't think XML Spy's graphical interface for schema is all that bad. How about looking on the bright side for a change, getting some work done, and influencing future developments from user point of view? (And that does not mean playing the markup theorist, it means giving people what they want, perhaps educating them in the process.) Christian Nentwich
