An expression matches the production Expr. An expression is evaluated to yield an object, which has one of the following four basic types: * node-set (an unordered collection of nodes without duplicates) * boolean (true or false) * number (a floating-point number) * string (a sequence of UCS characters)" Jeni Tennison has pointed out in a private communication (I've never used that phrase before :) that you can of course communicate a binary result by returning an empty or non-empty node-set. Arbitrary strings and large, negative or non-integer numbers would be pretty tricky. Francis.
