We have to be a bit patient about this. Unlike the RDBMS, theory is way behind implementation in the XML world. The database vendors are just trying to provide a solution for needs in the application development community. I believe each vendor is developing and operating on their own "logical framework". There are obvious works from which we are all borrowing. Semi-structured databases is one such area. So it will take a bit of time before you will get to the stage where you will know what to look for in a product. The Query Language is not yet final and is likely to go through several iterations. How long did it take for RDBMS to get to that stage inspite of the fact that it was built on sound and pretty complete theory?
