DOCUMENT ANALYST Department: Information Services Institution: University of Glasgow Location: Glasgow, Scotland Salary: ALC Grade 3 £25,216-30967 per annum Applications must be received by: 12 October 2001. JOB DESCRIPTION An exciting opportunity to join a lively and talented records and information management team within Information Services at the University of Glasgow developing better use of information in the paper and digital order. As part of a team, you will be expected to play a significant role in future development of procedures for the delivery of digital information across campus, particularly in exploiting the potential of XML and domain specific dtds. You will be required to develop relations with projects addressing content issues for delivering learning and furthering research in a number of departments and to provide advice and help develop other projects. If appropriate you will be appointed a research fellow in the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute - HATII. You will possess a degree, have experience in defining and applying mark-up DTDs in SGML/XML and processing in DSSSL/XSLT, familiarity with SGML/XML editors, understand the issues surrounding digital documents and have excellent communication skills. Familiarity with TEI and skills in scripting languages - Perl, Tcl, PHP, Python is desirable. This is a new post within Information Services in response to the challenges posed by the increase in information in a digital form. It builds upon previous initiatives and takes the work from the status of project to that of service. The tasks and objectives of the job are given in the list below, however, at this level, the development of the post will depend on the vision and skills of the person appointed. · to drive on the developments following on from ERM project, · to develop procedures to enable the University Calendar to be efficiently assembled, · to make a contribution to Intranet development in the University, based on a thorough understanding of the nature of documents and multi-mode publishing, · to provide an advice service and training to both Information Services and the wider University community, on document structure and multi-mode publishing and contribute to seminars on relevant topics in this field, · to advise on management, updating and web delivery of xml catalogue documents and their delivery, · to build bridges to the other people with SGML/XML skills in the University and with people who have a wide variety of views on the publishing of information in a digital form, · to work on the problems of digital archiving in collaboration with Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII http://www.hatii.arts.gla.ac.uk/index.htm), · to contribute to developing cross domain searching/mapping of formats between domains (i.e. ead/marc/cimi), · to represent Information Services at national and international meetings with the area defined by this job.
