Max: But not functional enough for benchmarking ;->. They have a 50 MB limit on the size of the database, a lot of their enterprise features (like X-Node) are not present, and they have other limitations that make benchmarking impossible on the Starter Kit (trust me... we tried ;->). We even tried to BUY a full version of Tamino from them, and they wouldn't sell to us (are they scared? ;->). We also ran into two prospect situations where the customers asked for a competitive benchmark against Tamino and SoftwareAG walked away when they found out it was against us (and thus we won the deals ;->). I believe we (eXcelon) have the most mature product for solving these problems out there. But, I'd like someone to prove it... I just don't think the market is quite large enough yet for the analysts to get really serious about it. Hence why we have a Platform solution where XIS is a part rather than concentrating on making our millions on just XIS ;-> Cheers, Chris --------------------------------------- Chris Parkerson Product Manager eXcelon Corporation Burlington, MA (781) 674-5393 http://www.exceloncorp.com --------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: Max Dunn [mailto:maxdunn@s...] Sent: Monday, September 10, 2001 2:40 PM To: chrisp; 'Bill Lindsey'; xml-dev@l... Tamino has a pretty great eval version out there, http://www.xmlstarterkit.com/ : certainly functional enough for evaluation. I think there are enough of us in the XML DB and XML-enabled DB market now to submit to an independent benchmark ;-> We've been building ours since 1997 ;->. We've spent a lot of our own resources on standalone and competitive benchmarking (well, against the products we can get a hold of... so far, we've only been able to do that with the RDBMS vendors... the rest of you XML DB vendors do not have fully-functional evals like we at eXcelon do ;->). If not ZapThink, maybe there's someone else on this list that can coordinate such an independent benchmark. Cheers, Chris
