Although XML is going on tangents that mean 
little to most of us who are planting and 
picking the crops, XML is still useful.  Go forth
and use XML.  A lot of the stuff on the w3c and
this mailing list is just noise.

Albeit entertaining noise.

PS, this reminds me of the usual progress of
governments.  First there is a simple idea and
after the war is won, you somehow end up
with the UN.  From the perspective of a code farmer,
the w3c is just politics nowadays.  A lot of
hot air blowing in all directions.

PPS, I am not a fan of XML schema either.  I
could say flippantly, just don't use it, but as
you point out, it's going to be hard to avoid it.
I could lament over the relative simplicity of
DTDs but I'd just be wasting my precious time.
For now, DTDs work for me and I don't
have any use for anything else.

PPPS, I seems to me that the XML in SOAP was
always meant to be hidden from developers because
SOAP was conceived by people who own conventional
development environments (e.g., vs.net).  Hence
it can be as ugly as it needs to be and uglier.  Am I
in the minority of those who want to interact
directly with XML?
