This Gartner analysis makes sense to me. BEA is profiting considerably from being viewed as the "safe choice" by managers making purchasing decisions because of its #1 market position, without considering whether they really need J2EE. Interestingly, the new battleground for leadership by J2EE vendors is now web services. They are each trying to position themselves as the premier platform for web services, but most of them are simply bundling Apache SOAP as their solution (which can be had for free). > -----Original Message----- > From: Nicolas LEHUEN [mailto:nicolas.lehuen@u...] > Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 6:26 AM > To: 'xml-dev@l...' > Subject: Will the same happen to web services ? > > > Funny to see a consulting firm give such advices just after > being a big > supporter of J2EE... I especially like the sentence "Don't > let confusion or > hype push you to spend more than necessary.". Can we expect the same > fallback on other hypes ? <snip/>
