Totally agreed. I have also never worked in an environment where everything was MS based. Most servers are *NIX and their stability is uncomparable to NT/win2k. Definitelly MS has the marketing power to convince the clueless like Claude otherwise. It's the standards that allow the different flavours and OSes to coexist side by side. To make casual assumptions with obviously little experience outside a closed world about the usage of Unix is as silly as to make casual assumptions about the use of English, and simply brushing aside consideration of languages such as Spanish. I can fully understand how from some positions the world might appear to be nearly completely English speaking, or all running Windows. It is however a naive viewpoint, and not a good measure of reality. I'd add that I am myself an English speaking web-dev, who's currenly having a blast with .NET so I have quite a clear bias of preference. I am however developed on occasion with Python, Apache, and MySQL, with is an absolutely wonderful platform to be developing Web apps for. It's a rich and varied world out there, and I wouldn't be too quick to blinker yourself. Cheers Guy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bullard, Claude L (Len)" <clbullar@i...> To: "Nicolas LEHUEN" <nicolas.lehuen@u...>; "'XML-DEV '" <xml-dev@l...> Sent: Monday, July 09, 2001 4:27 PM Subject: RE: OS other than Win > No. The thread is serious.
