Good to see James get public credit for his work.  
Some of the logic in the article is questionable.  

o  Had to sell XML.  So ISO bad; SGML bad.  Must
   be simple.  Get rid of features.

o  Sold XML.  Now too many people so too complicated.

People want features so they put them in more specs 
and these specs overlap and compete.

As the twig is bent, so grows the tree, James.
