There's been much discussion here about XML and which database technologies
are optimal for XML data. Dr. Akmal Chaudhri, co-author of OBJECT DATABASES
IN PRACTICE and OBJECT DATABASES: A PRACTICAL LOOK AT TODAY'S
IMPLEMENTATIONS WITH JAVA AND XML, is doing a presentation in London on 22
February:

"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: What is the Best XML Database Solution of
All?"

Admission is free if you register for the Exhibits Pass for XML DevCon 2001,
which also admits you to the joint meeting on February 22 of the British
Computer Society and XML UK.

"The Importance of XML, e-Government and e-Business Standards"

Panel discussion, with open discussion to follow. Panelists include Anthony
Coates (Reuters), Daniel Rivers-Moore (RivCom), Nigel Bray (XML UK), David
Penfold (BCS Electronic Publishing Specialist Group), Simon Phipps (Sun
Microsystems UK), and John Wailing (gsi.gov.UK).

Thursday, February 22, 7:30 pm
London Novotel-West Hotel and Conference Centre

The UK is a leading proponent of e-government and interoperability
standards. Besides e-GIF in the UK, there are important global e-business
initiatives (ebXML and UDDI) that are also based on XML. (ebXML is a UN
initiative.)

This open forum will include a panel discussion about e-business and
e-government interoperability standards, and the role of government,
standards bodies, consortia, and community processes in defining standards
for the 21st century. There will be open discussion with the audience and
panel members.
