Title: RE: The failure to communicate XML - and its costs to e-business
Imho, trying to re-form XML for simplicity at this time is a dead-end. There's a plan from the W3C, like it or not, and lots of books and articles that confront the complexity. The books are out there, people are reading them, going to courses, learning about the strange new SGML-like thing called XML. To see this, just go to a bookstore, and look for the XML books. People *are* buying them, learning the jargon, and then building compatible software.

My approach has been to start with tools that work, and create simple XML formats for them. It's the zig to the W3C zag. Let both approaches have a chance in the market, and I think both will take root. That's my approach to the complexity. You don't need a book to understand OPML, RSS 0.91 or XML-RPC. I've heard from book publishers when I ask them why not write a book about this stuff? "What would we put in the book?" they ask. Good question!
