In IE 5.n, go to page

 http://www.ascc.net/xml/test/utf-8/text_xml/zh-utf8-0.xml

Note the last paragraph reads
  
 The XML header of this file is .


But view source and you will see that the XML says

<data>The XML header of this file is
&lt;?xml encoding="utf-8"?&gt;.
</data>


The CSS handler for XML in IE5 apparantly converts it
to HTML without redelimiting the <, and the HTML  renderer
strips it as a PI.  As I said, I emailed with an MS engineer before on
this issue, so the problem is hardly new.
