Personally I have found the discussion interesting, especially as it interacts with two other current threads - security, and software metadata. I seem to remember that XML Spy V1.0 was originally announced on this list some time ago - forgive me if I'm wrong - and if so, it's not unreasonable that members who downloaded it should have an adequate explanation [as has happened]. There was a suggestion a few days ago that we should have some basic metadata for announcements of software and similar things. Ideally this could be posted on, of linked to from, a home page - when we get one. In that case security might reasonably be one of the considerations. Until then, I would suggest that software announcements be made because they were in keeping with the current and recent past discussions, and gave indication of language, license, duration of usability and any unusual aspects of download or installation [e.g. this thread.] P. *************************************************************************** This is xml-dev, the mailing list for XML developers.
