In the Unix world, the spreadsheets for both KDE and Gnome use XML-based save formats (in fact, most Gnome programs use XML save formats). Here are the relevant home pages: http://koffice.kde.org/ http://www.gnome.org/gnome-office/gnumeric.shtml I'm not sure if either project has published a proper description of its XML format yet, so you might have to read the source code. Yes, I know that it must look silly to non-Linux types that two open-source spreadsheets use two different XML-based save formats (and I've posted a comment on that point before), but think of it in Monty Python terms: if Microsoft is the Romans, then KDE and Gnome are the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea (not necessarily in that order).
