If you mean that XML is going to be overcomplicated, it's true.
If you mean that SOAP puts semantics on XML, that's false.
And neither of these two statements makes the article, we
talked about, clever or correct (if you remeber, author was
talking about security of SOAP in a context of a recent worm).

So? And what is so unorthodox here? Of course it is.
It's just when you start to implement and especially
integrate huge B2B systems, you have to share those idiosyncrasies
with more and more of your business partners, so they can understand you.
Some people made the next step and started to talk
about XML.ORG and Biztalk.org, others about schemas. But anyway,
it does not say anything about security.

Philosophically, as I understood, you were trying to say following (correct
me, if I am wrong):

1. Validation is highly overvalued, it creates problems in return for a
false promise of safety. And yes, I agree with that.

2. Overall approach to XML is overcomplicated, we create extra stuff, when
absense of one was really the advantage, which gave the life to XML. Again
agree with that.

So, how it is related to SOAP security?

You did not prove that. I still see
