switching doctype
After all the discussion about public identifiers here in the last few
weeks, I think this article might be interesting:

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2000/04/14/doctype/index.html

Eric Meyer discusses how Internet Explorer 5 for the Mac is using DOCTYPE
declarations to determine how closely its processing will adhere to W3C
standards or backward-compatibility modes.

It's not quite the same stuff we were talking about last week, but it also
shows that maybe DOCTYPE has some life in it. (On the other hand, I worry
that we're piling too much on this relatively inadequate packaging
mechanism. Oh well.)
