Re: Questions on XML syntax and conformance issues
I made a mistake in my earlier message:

>><!ATTLIST doc a1 CDATA "%e;">

>The test is wrong. Some people have interpreted the table in section
>4.4 as saying that parameter entities are recognised in attribute
>defaults, but this is fixed in erratum 41

In fact, the errratum is not relevant to this case, since AttValue was
already mentioned in the original.

The definition in section 4.4 of "Reference in Attribute Value"
explicitly includes default attribute values, and the entry in the
table for "Parameter" and "Reference in Attribute Value" is
"Not recognized".

To re-iterate the point: in the example above, "%e;" is not a reference
to a parameter entity, it is just the characters %, e, and ;.

This is consistent with SGML, which allows "replaceable parameter
data" in "parameter literals" in "entity text", but not for "attribute
value specifications". (At least, that's what the book says; I really
checked it by running nsgmls).
