Just two reminders: 1) XML developed from what started as the "SGML on the Web" project: its aim was to find a subset of SGML that would work efficiently in a streamed environment, so it put some restrictions on how you could use SGML in a web environment. 2) To create an ID from a database key all you need to do is to add a single letter to the front of the key (q is a useful one to try to avoid clashes with any other forms of data you might have around) and then strip it off whenever you want to match the key. (Of course this is considered by some to be a huge and unnecessary programming overhead that ruins application efficiency!)
