Well, I for one think the current syntax is great.  It means that almost
any reasonable metadata document, provided it does not involve mixed
content (which makes little sense in metadata anyhow) can be read with
general-purpose RDF tools.

It doesn't cover the whole model, though.  Not to mention being ferociously verbose.
