Your declaration should refer to a valid URL. A file system URL looks like this: file://C:/xml/xappli/DTDs/Books.dtd If you are working locally on both your XML and DTD, you can also use a relative reference. If you want to use an HTTP URL, it must be possible to retrieve the resource. http://c:/xml/xappli/Books.dtd doesn't look like a valid HTTP URL to me. Good luck, Teun PS.
