My answer: forget about SML. And thanks for your mail. It precisely demonstrates the danger of pushing SML at this moment. There may be some virtue in it , I do not know, but definitively not at this moment. I mostly speak about XML with people who are not interested in meta languages but in chemistry, physics, .... They are perfectly happy if I say, well if you know that at the beginning you must have <xxx> and at the end </xxx> and if you want an attribute you need yyy = "aaa" or yyy = 'aaa' and now you can use XML on daily basis and there is some more complicated stuff, as you will find later, ..
