If there is a tiger in the hill, I won't be home for dinner. If not, I won't be home for dinner. <g> You brought up an important point which has been rattling in my brain (it could be a loose bolt) which is: XML fragments are important. Your template idea is also important. What is missing is the idea of schema fragments which are similar to XHTML module idea except at a smaller scale, more like molecules rather than bricks. Smaller schema fragments can be used to form larger schema fragments. A simple schema fragment is a integer data schema fragment. Such a schema can be used to to create a domain specific schema fragment like ZIP code. I am now leaning very heavily toward focusing SML on XML fragments so that SML data (the word 'document' is not in the SML draft spec) starts with the 'content' production rule of the XML spec. No prolog, no misc. SML data have zero or more elements and can be entirely text. Interesting thoughts. I have yet to see clearly where this line of thinking will lead to but I am having fun.
