As the developer of web content management software, and the webmaster for over a dozen active websites, here's what I think XHTML should be. 1. A tightening up of HTML. Eliminate the anomalies, like <li>, <img>, <p> that in HTML can appear without balancing </li>, </img>, </p> tags. XHTML pages should be well-formed XML, with mods to HTML to bring it into well-formedness. That's it. Nothing more. Anything more than that would be totally unmanageable for my company.
