You definitely don't need to write your own parser -- there are plenty available, including Microsoft's. See, for example: http://www.xmlsoftware.com/parsers/ http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/xml.html#xmlSoftware It would also be a good idea to write your software in a parser-independent way, using SAX (http://www.megginson.com/SAX/) or DOM (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-DOM-Level-1/).
