How will we sort the dates in xsl ?

xsl:sort allows to define the sorting order, but it only supports number or text, here how you can sort a date using 3 keys

<xsl:for-each select="/books/book">
<xsl:sort select="substring(@pubdate,7,4)"/> <!-- year -->
<xsl:sort select="substring(@pubdate,1,2)"/> <!-- month -->
<xsl:sort select="substring(@pubdate,3,2)"/> <!-- day -->
