hi all,
i have a fixed-width textfile and i want to convert it to XML..
I have tried this with simple files where all the rows are the same and it works fine...
but now i have a textfile with diferent rows... so a parent row can have it's childs... but it is still a fixed-size file and not comma or anything else delimited...
for example:
#PARENT1 46890210
#CHILD12 E22 Q
#PARENT1 46890196
#CHILD12 E22 R
#PARENT1 46890179
#CHILD12 E22 R
#PARENT1 46890167
#CHILD12 E22 A
#PARENT1 46890150
#CHILD12 114 B
#PARENT1 46890108
#CHILD12 E22 R

In Convert-to-XML, you can have a different set of fields for each
row that matches a specific pattern.
For your example, you can have rows that match "#PARENT1" output one
set of XML elements, and those that match "#CHILD12" output another
set.
See the "Add Node and Pattern" option, which comes up when you
right-click on a row. It will pre-fill with a best guess at what
you are trying to match.

Hi, Tarek. Yes, Stylus Studio 6 Release 3 Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition both include the Convert to XML feature, which supports conversion of fixed-width files (and many other formats, like EDI and CSV) to XML. All versions of Stylus Studio provide a Fixed-Width to XML Document Wizard.
You can learn more about using the Convert to XML feature in

Sorry, but we do not yet support fields of different sizes by pattern
in fixed-width regions yet. There is a tentative plan to include that
in our next version, but it is not fully decided yet.
