Murtaza MadraswalaSubject: XSL FO with Java data source
Author: Murtaza Madraswala

Hi!
I am new to Stylus Studio and relatively new to XSL FO. What I am trying to do is create an XSL file which will be a template, and the data will be recieved from a Java data object. The ultimate goal is to obtain a pdf output using Apache FOP. I am following pretty much the same design as is being used in one of the examples that is shipped with FOP.
What I am trying to figure out is how to use Stylus Studio to generate the XSL template that can then be used with the Java data object.
All help greatly appreciated.

MKM.

Murtaza,

Your java object needs to be converted to XML before you can use XSLT.
The conversion can be implemented in different ways (code binding, serialization, etc),
once you have a XML document you can use Stylus Studio to design/test/preview the XSLT tranformation
that will generate XSL-FO and then PDF.

Take a look to the sample XSLFormattingObjects\catalog.xsl

Hope this helps
Ivan
