In Sonic Studio both v5 and V6 we have noted odd behavior when our output contains an <img ... />
tag.

It processes OK, but Preview in Tree always chokes on it giving the message "Output document cannnot be parsed as XML: Expected end of tag 'img'

Otherwise, everything else appears to work OK.

What causes this? Is it a bug or a feature or is it choking here because of something else?

Philip,
your output method is likely set to be "html"; when that's true, the
output generated by your stylesheet is not well formed XML. The tree view
in the preview pane is only able to display well formed XML, that's why you
get that error.
