Lee HumphriesSubject: SS Bug: XSD schema parser/validator
Author: Lee Humphries
Date: 22 Sep 2002 08:16 PM
I've just tried validating a schema that contains the declaration:
>import namespace="http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace" schemaLocation="http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd"/<

And I get an Error dialog with the following error:
"Parsing error in [temp file name]: Cannot open http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd ..."
When I open up this file it includes a very clear statement to use the above import to enable xml:base, xml:lang or xml:space attributes on elements.

If I use the alternate http://www.w3.org/2001/xml.xsd I get the same result.

Hi Lee,
I cannot reproduce the error. I wrote a simple XML Schema (attached to this message) and when I validated it, it validated fine.
Can you post (or send to my e-mail) the schema you are having problems with?

Thanks,
Alberto

When I try that XSD I get the same error. Could it be some support file that I'm missing/have the wrong version of?

Lee, this is weird; can you double check that you are running BL100g or h?
Also, can you try opening explicitly http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd?

I get this problem with both g and h, and I can very definitely open http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd

Lee,
did you try opening http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd from a web browser
or from Stylus? If you can open it from Stylus, then we will need to
investigate elsewhere; if you can't, are you running behind a proxy server?

Thanks,
Minollo

Hi Minollo,

I had no problem opening http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd from a web browser (IE6).

If I try opening it in Stylus I get 'the path ... is not valid'. I'm pretty sure I'm running behind a Proxy Server although none of my local internet settings say so. Is there any way in particular I should try opening this file from within Stylus?

Lee

We have had a couple of reports in the past about Stylus Studio having
issues when working with Proxy servers; we have been unable to pin-point
the cause.

We are sending you a couple of tests to run so that we can understand
what's going on on your machine.

Thanks,
Minollo

Hi,

I loaded up the replacement dll - to no apparent effect.

The little test executable returned the following:
Opening http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd
Web site found, sending request
Return code = 407
Status Text = Proxy Authentication Required

Which probably explains a lot.

I'll see if I can find out some more info about our proxy (like what we're using for starters).
Are there any details like ports, IP addresses, etc. that we can look at directly?

This should give us enough information to address the issue; we may ask you
to run an additional test application later.

Thanks,
Minollo

This is fixed in BL100k, now available as a 4.0 update:
http://www.stylusstudio.com/update (4.0 section)

Thanks,
Minollo
