NAIJUN ZHOUSubject: mapper: choose root element
Author: NAIJUN ZHOU

Hi,

I'm having a problem of choosing root element.
I have a source my.xml file being mapped to the attached my.xsd file.
In my.xsd, ControlPoints should include a list of ControlPoint. This relation is defined in their type definition.
However, when I choose ControlPoints as the root element I cannot see ControlPoint.
Could you tell me what's wrong with my schema, or how to choose a root element. Is this a bug of Stylus mapper not able to retrieve relations from type definition?

Thanks a lot!

my.xsd
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<xs:schema targetNamespace="http://www.opengis.net/examples"
xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/examples"
xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:gml="http://www.opengis.net/gml"
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">
<xs:import namespace="http://www.opengis.net/gml" schemaLocation="http://schemas.opengis.net/gml/3.0.0/base/feature.xsd"/>
<xs:element name="ControlPoints" type="gml:AbstractFeatureCollectionType"/>
<xs:element name="ControlPoint" type="ControlPoint" substitutionGroup="gml:_Feature"/>
<xs:complexType name="ControlPoint">
<xs:complexContent>
<xs:extension base="gml:AbstractFeatureType">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="horizontalPosition">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="point" type="gml:PointType"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:extension>
</xs:complexContent>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:schema>

NAIJUN

What would be the realtionship between CodePoint and CodePoints?
From what I see in the schema you posted they are sibling definitions.

When you choose CodePoints as root, Mapper displays its content model.

Given your schema how would look a hypothetical XML instance?

Hope this helps
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Thank you for your response.

ControlPoint is a type of gml:AbstractFeatureCollectionType,
and ControlPoints is gml:AbstractFeatureType. So, ControlPoints
is a collection of ControlPoint. I wonder if Stylus can check the
types to get a "deep" relation?

An XML instance would be like:
<ControlPoints>
<gml:featureMember>
<ControlPoint>....</ControlPoint>
<ControlPoint>....</ControlPoint>
....
</gml:featureMember>
</ControlPoints>

Naijun,

I still can't see how Stylus Studio can interpret the link between
Codepoints and CodePoint

Codepoints is type of AbstractFeatureCollectionType
AbstractFeatureCollectionType extends BoundedFeatureType
BoundedFeatureType restricts AbstractFeatureType

Codepoint is type of ControlPoint
ControlPoint extends AbstractFeatureType

There is no instantiation indicating that Codepoints holds a list of
Codepoint.

You could change the CodePoints definition to be

<xs:element name="ControlPoints">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:complexContent>
<xs:extension base="gml:AbstractFeatureCollectionType">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element ref="ControlPoint" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:extension>
</xs:complexContent>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>

Hope this helps
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
I created the .xsd file with XML Spy,
in which I can see the inherent hierarchical
structure of the ControlPoints and ControlPoint.
But I cannot when I open the schema in Stylus.
Do you have any idea why I cannot view the structure
in Stylus?

Best,

Naijun
