David FordSubject: Can Stylus Studio easily export a DB2 table to XML?
Author: David Ford

Greetings!

My boss asked me if I know of a tool that can automatically export a DB2 (for i) table to an XML file. I told him that I could write a Java program pretty easily that could accomplish this for a specific table, but I'm not aware of any way to "generically" do it for any table.

Another person in the company mentioned that Stylus Studio (which we do own) can probably do that. I apologize for my ignorance, but can that be done?

For examle:

select *
from deleteme

TheKey SomeText
1 Row Number 1
2 Row Number 2

==> would produce output something like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<deleteme>
<row>
<TheKey>1</TheKey>
<SomeText>Row Number 1</SomeText>
</row>
<row>
<TheKey>2</TheKey>
<SomeText>Row Number 2</SomeText>
</row>
</deleteme>

or

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<deleteme>
<row TheKey="1" SomeText="Row Number 1" />
<row TheKey="2" SomeText="Row Number 2" />
</deleteme>

Does anyone know if Stylus Studio 2009 (release 2) can easily accomplish something like this pointing at DB2 for i ?

Thanks in advance!
Dave
