Kurt WaldSubject: 2011 Enterprise code folding flickering

Hi,

the code folding bar (+-) on the left side of the XSLT editor window (source mode)and parts of the content of the editor window itself flicker during text input especially while editing larger XSLT files. I did not experience this behaviour with Stylus Studio 2010 Enterprise.

(System: Stylus Studio 2011 Enterprise, Win 7 Ultimate, display resolution 1920 x 1200 color depth 32 bit)

Hi Kurt,

I was able to duplicate some flicker using the same exact configuration as you described. I suppose that the flicker may be more or less depending on the speed of the machine or video card. I will report this to the developers and see if I can find out the reason since you did not experience this behavior on the Stylus Studio 2010. What was the size of the larger XSL files and do you experience some level of flicker no matter what you edit?

Regards,
Rory

Hi Rory,

some xslt file in question have 1700 to 2000 lines of code. The larger the file the heavier the flicker. One reason I could imagine is, that code folding may be currently recalculated for any keystroke instead of line breaks only.

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I checked with the developers and they said "The only change that occurred in that area is the addition of a pop up menu when the user right clicks on the code folding bar (with items like 'collapse all siblings' etc..)"

Just to be clear, you are saying that on the same machine with Stylus Studio 2010 editing the same files you did not notice any flicker? As I said in my previous post I did notice a slight flicker but only because I was actually looking out for it. I will try installing Stylus Studio 2010 and see if I notice a difference in the flickering.

Regards,
Rory

Hi Rory,

no flickering with 2010. And you should really use a larger stylesheet for testing, since 2011 also produces almost no flickering with for instance a 100 lines of code stylesheet.

Hi Kurt,

I just tried 2011 with an XSLT file of over 21,000 lines and I was unable to notice any difference in the slight flicker I observed before. I'm wondering if it could be something specific to your machine. Are you able to install and test on another machine? You could just use the trial key to test.

Rory

Hi Rory,

in fact I have 2011 installed on two machines. The faster one (quadcore) produces the flicker. On the slower notebook parts of the code folding graphics disappear for some time (1-2 seconds with a 1700 lines stylesheet) instead of flicker.

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Would you be able to post one of the stylesheets to the forum? I just want to check if there is something specific to the stylesheets you are editing.

Rory

Hi Rory,

the stylesheets are confidential but I have uploaded a screenshot (folding.png) showing the partial loss of code folding graphics on the slower machine (XP SP3).

Regards

Kurt
