Hello,

I want to find the position of an element A among its "cousins" under a common immediate ancestor node of type B to set it as an attribute.

That's what my template looks like:

<xsl:template match="A">
<xsl:variable name="id" select="ancestor::B[1]/@id"/>
<xsl:variable name="pos">
<xsl:number level="any" count="A[ancestor::B[1]/@id = $id]"/>
</xsl:variable>
<A><xsl:value-of select="$pos"/></A>
</xsl:template>

But $pos is not what I expect but run's over all A's from the beginning of the whole document to the end.

What's wrong with my template?
Thanks and regards.

Edit: As I just found out, it helps to change the last line of the template to

<A><xsl:value-of select="$id"/>/<xsl:value-of select="$pos"/></A>

i.e. using the variable another time (which I did just for debugging purposes). What does that mean????
