In most editors when I do a file open, I can select multiple files with Ctrl-Click or Shift-Click. In Stylus Studio, this does not work. It is a nuisance when you want to do some bulk changes.

Roedy,

You can use couple alternative methods:

- Drag&Drop from Windows explorer to the main Stylus Studio window

- Using the File Explorer docking window

Hope this helps

I have tried this. In over 20 attempts only once was I able to import more than one file at a pop. I was not able to reproduce my success. I tried all kinds of variants without success. Perhaps the import is working, but it squirrels the documents away in some non-obvious place.

The import is not smart enough to ignore *.bak files inadvertently included. It would be nice to define various extensions as "ignore" in such imports.

After I have a number of files in the left panel, I then wanted to indent them all. I could not figure out how to do that in bulk. I had to do them one at a time click click, speeded up a tad with a keyboard shortcut. I was able to bulk validate by using the command line utility.

It would be nice to be able validate/indent a whole project or some selection using the traditional shift-click control-click.

Finally just as I was chugging away mechanically through the indents, it just froze, and required task manager to kill it.

It would be nice if the file select within Style Studio allowed multiple selects so I did not have to fool around with this Mickey Mouse drag and drop stuff.

The command line validate should emit the filename and success all on one line to make it easy by eye to scan the results. Using TakeCommand to add the filename makes for a messy printout.

---- amper.xml
Validation succeeded
---- backuptozip.xml
Validation succeeded
---- base64.xml
Validation succeeded

This would be no much easier to scan:

Validation succeeded amper.xml
Validation succeeded backuptozip.xml
Validation succeeded base64.xml

It would be great to have a command line bulk indenter as well.

I think I have found the magic formula.

1. don't try to import more than 20 files at a time. More that that risks crashing Stylus Studio. (It would be nice if it took as many as it could safely handle and refuse the rest with an error message.)

2. Clear the stylus edit window of all files.

3. midi-mise both the Windows explorer window and the Stylus explorer app.

4. Select files in the explorer window. Left-drag them into the stylus edit window.

Stylus is not good about visual feedback to let you know it did something. It just quietly does its thing. Unfortunately, a keystroke macro may not work in some context, and you won't notice. So you have to rig your own visual feedback, e.g. deliberate MIS-aligning part of your documents head of time, so you can see the alignment shift near the top of the document.

Ivan,

You mention that it is possible to use the File Explorer to open multiple files.
May I ask how? As far as I can see, it is only possible to open a single file at a time.
You could of course go into the folder through the File Explorer and doubleclick on each file you want to open, but if you want to open up 20 files, you could easily miss one or two files and it would take quite a lot of doubleclicking, instead of just selecting the files needed and press Enter.

I don't think that implementing multiple selection in the File Explorer is a good idea, as it would be breaking the mental image of how a File Explorer works.
Instead it would be better to implement the multiple selection in the "open file" dialog.

I see that you have to make your own "file open" dialog, since it required implementing WebDav, Projects and such. So if you can't implement opening multiple files, it might be a good idea to create two "file open" dialogs. One for the local computer, which is Windows own "file open" dialog and One for WebDav, Projects and such, that does not include local files.
This way you are able to support multiple ways of working with Stylus Studio.
