chris steinigSubject: Can I programatically convert from any established flat file format to XML using your .net API?

We have a problem where we get new flat file formats from customers regularly and need to convert those to an XML format so we can apply an XSLT to transform them to our standard internal XML format. It looks like the .net data conversion api (described here: http://www.datadirect.com/developer/data-integration/videos/xml-converters-dotnet/index.ssp) will allow for that So, I imagine the steps would be:

1) customer comes to us with a new flat file format (say a fixed width file)
2) we create a .convert file using the Stylus tool directly to describe the meta information about that flat file format.
3) We create an XSLT based on the previously generated XML file
4) we can then use the ConverterFactory class in the .net API to apply that predefined .convert file to the flat file the customer passes us, and next apply the pre defined XSLT.

Is this something that is handled by the .net API Stylus provides?

What does the source look like for that? Can you pass a predefined .convert format to the CreateConvertToXML method? If so what does that look like?

If this is a possibility I think the Stylus tool will fit our immediate needs, so I'd appreciate a quick reply.

Thanks,
-Chris

Yes.

The source code looks like in this example, except instead of putting
in converter:EDI, you put in converter: followed by the name of the
.conv file - http://www.datadirect.com/developer/data-integration/tutorials/converter-sample-code/index.ssp

A more complex example, calling the converter directory from XQuery, is
here - http://www.datadirect.com/developer/data-integration/tutorials/convert-flat-file-to-xml/index.ssp
