I am trying the demo version of Stylus and I wanted to convert this csv file that I had to XML. I thought it would be easy, but it is giving messages that it can not convert to xml.

How do I convert this simple csv file (created from Excel) into an XML file?

Well, if the field names were on the first line, it would be very
quick, as you could do
File|Open, choose the file, check the box 'open with xml converter',
and then choose the CSV converter. One of the options is to read the
labels from the first line.

But, since they are not, you'll need to create a custom converter.
File|New|Custom XML Converter
choose your input file
Then, right-click on the line that starts with 'Base' and
choose the option 'get labels from this line'.

Now when you click the green triangle to run, it will convert it to
XML.

Thanks for the quick reply!
One thing that was needed is for Java to be installed! which it never was, so after installing Java, it seems to allow the software to do what it needs to do. I still have some issues with the conversion. I am using the professional version of the software. I am not seeing the check box 'open with xml converter',"and then choose the CSV converter."

I watched the video at the website
http://www.stylusstudio.com/videos/convert-to-xml1/convert-to-xml1.html

and yes in the Enterprise Edition, it appears to show up as an option in the video.

Do I need to reinstall the Professional edition, because maybe without having Java installed, the binary did not include the capability to "open with XML converter"?

The XML Converters are only included in the Enterprise edition.

Tony,
Everything work as planned now. I have an XML file from my CSV file.
-just a brief history, I uninstalled the Professional version, and installed the Enterprise edition. I then followed the steps you mentioned, (and shown in the video). The conversion went smooth and accurate, and I was able to get the XML I was looking for.

Now that I know Stylus Studio can do what I am looking to do, how do I start learning more about the software as what I am really after is a script for/inside my Autocad or Excel software/file (or batch conversion of lots of the independently created CSV files from each of those Autocad or Excel schedules)

I have a price quote of $500 dollars to create a program that can do conversions from inside AutoCad. I was thinking of options.

If you want to chime in on this post, I would appreciate it, however, I do not have anymore technical question, over this thread.

Thanks for your help,

Aloha,
Dean Tidwell

You can script the conversions through the stylusxslt.exe or
stylusxqy.exe executables that live in the same directory that
you installed Stylus Studio into.

Or, to create programs that directly call the converters, you
would need to purchase the XML Converter licenses. For that,
see http://www.xmlconverters.com/

Tony,

Could you explain how the first process would work?

xslt, is that a template to convert a batch group of CSV files?

(by skill level is extreme beginner)

aloha,
Dean
