Steven BlackSubject: Web Service Call failure... any insight?
Author: Steven Black

Hi, I'm stumped, please help.

We just upgraded to a new version of CRM software called Sugar. The web service calls are apparently fine when I execute them from application code, but Stylus Studio is choking.

Here's the WSDL: https://mycrm.rpstechnology.com/mellowoodmedical/soap.php?wsdl

When I execute simple non-authenticated calls from Stylus Studio, like "test" or "get_server_version" or "get_server_time" from SS I always get this error message
; nested exception is:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: White spaces are required between publicId and systemId.

When I execute this from application code, I get back well-formed XML, according tot Stylus Studio.

Why is Stylus Studio giving me this error? Any insight? I would like to use Stylus Studio as a front-end for development but it isn't liking what comes back. Why?

Thanks!

Hi Steven,
it looks like your CRM server doesn't handle requests using HTTP 1.1; open the scenario dialog, scroll down the Properties list, locate the HTTP version property, and select 1.0. This seems to fix the problem.

Hope this helps,
Alberto

As always, Alberto, thanks for the prompt reply.

I can't locate where to make this setting change. The help file speaks of "Scenario Properties" dialog (which I've found, no problem) but where is the "General tab"? All I see is a one tab, and its named "Binding".

I'm looking in here under "Scenarios... for Web service calls" and also under "Overview of Scenario Features". In the latter, "HTTP Settings" make no mention of version, and it's not on the dialog...

Thanks for your patience...

Can anybody else clarify WTH Alberto is referring to here? I just don't see where the HTTP version is specified.

Maybe a note is in order to Help file editors about this....

Hi Steven,
the option is available in the latest version, Stylus Studio 2008 Rel 2. If you are using an older version, and cannot upgrade to it, you can also switch to use the .NET client instead of Axis-J.

Hope this helps,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

When I go Help -> Check for latest version

I'm informed that I am running the latest version.

(Bummer that we can't copy from this dialog !!)

STYLUS STUDIO 2008
Build 1050g
With a bunch of module versions I won't transcribe (!) for you here.

So question, then: what the heck is going on? Apparently I have the latest version.

If not, then why the bum steer? and what's the procedure for getting the latest?

Puzzled. Thanks.

Hi Steven

Did you try what Alberto suggested?

As you can see using Microsoft .NET client I successfully invoked the operation test, see attached screenshot

Yes, thank you.

The questions now, however, are
1) Why my Help-About-Check for... tells me I have the latest version? and

2) What do I do to get the version that Alberto is alluding to? I'm a fully paid-up subscribing customer and I'm not appreciating bum-steers about latest versions by the software's check process.

Sensible?

The current latest version is build 1147c; you can download and install it from http://www.stylusstudio.com/download

Your existing activation key will unlock also the new version, which can be installed side-by-side with your current v2008 release 1 version.

No, my existing activation key does NOT unlock that download.

Furthermore online AUP tells me it's unsuccessful for any of a dozen freaking reasons.

You know, JUST ONCE I'd like to get a straight and correct answer from Stylus Studio Tech Support.

(See also: a past thread about XSLT 2.0 support by your command line tools. Remember that? I sure do. What a colossal waste of time that was for me.)

This latest incident started yesterday with a reply that was *completely* misleading and off-base, leading again to a ton of wasted time.

So here we have tech support making references features found in uber-new versions only, software that lies to me about it being the latest version, and a help file that doesn't match what tech support has obliquely instructed me to do.

Now you've directed me to a download that I can't unlock because your online key upgrade system, AUP, is so lame that it cannot give me the key I require in the moment. WTF???

You know, I buy and maintain specialty tools like Stylus Studio to have an edge, to be supremely productive when I need to be. It's personally and professionally insulting to be fed bum-steers like this.

This is bordering on customer abuse of a fully paid-up subscribing customer. Please snap out of it.

Somebody call me and make this right.

Hi Steven,
in order to sort out the status of your AUP subscription, could you mail your activation key to stylus-field-report@progress.com? Also, could you be more specific on the "dozen freaking reasons" of its failure?

Alberto
