Frank SouthSubject: XSLT processor using EXSLT functions
Author: Frank South
Date: 28 Mar 2008 02:24 PM
I am having trouble running a simple test xml and xsl.
I am new to Stylus Studio and currently just testing their Enterprise version.
The xml is:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<labels>
<label>
<name>Thomas Eliot</name>
<address>
<street>3 Prufrock Lane</street>
<city>Hartford</city>
<state>CT</state>
</address>
</label>
<label>
<name>Ezra Pound</name>
<address>
<street>45 Usura Place</street>
<city>Hailey</city>
<state>ID</state>
</address>
</label>
<label>
<name>William Williams</name>
<address>
<street>100 Wheelbarrow Blvd</street>
<city>Patterson</city>
<state>NJ</state>
</address>
</label>
</labels>

The xslt is:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsl:transform version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:func="http://exslt.org/functions"
xmlns:dyn="http://exslt.org/dynamic"
extension-element-prefixes="func"
>

<xsl:output method="text"/>

<func:function name="fTest">
<func:result select="' - FCS - '"/>
</func:function>

<!-- *************** -->
<xsl:template match="label">
<xsl:value-of select="name"/>
<xsl:text> of </xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="fTest()"/>

</xsl:template>

</xsl:transform>

The translator kicks it out when it gets to this line:
<xsl:value-of select="fTest()"/>

In real life we use xalan but are testing with the saxon 9.xx version in this test version.
How do you run the xalan machine in the studio?
How do you get this xsl to work in the studio?
thanks in advance,
Frank

Hi Frank,
you can run the Xalan processor by selecting the "Java built-in" processor (the exact version of Xalan depends on the JRE being used); however, starting with JRE 1.5, the Xalan XSLTC transformer is used be default, and it doesn't support the EXSLT Function features.
The best option would be to set a custom processor to exactly match the one used in production: have a look at this post (http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=9&fid=48&read=7055) for the instructions on how to setup a specific version of Xalan-J.

Hope this helps,
Alberto
